I'M HOME!!!
Oh my god, it's great to be back.
I took around 600 pictures in Europe, so I've got to root through them all. I've also kept a journal while I was there, so I'll begin posting that tomorrow, deals?
About the Raine Maida concert though...omg. Okay so basically, my tickets never arrived and I called my mom and she said that Ticketmaster wouldn't give me my ticket or give me cash back. So she called and threw a bitch fit at the manager or whatever and finally they relented and said I could pick up a ticket at the window at the venue.
I called Jeanette, who I was supposed to go with, and told her that the concert was a go, and she sounded all disappointed, said she'd made other plans. I asked her what she thought of the CD and she said she didn't like it, so I'm assuming she hadn't ACTUALLY made other plans, but just didn't want to go. I was getting desperate by now, and I had $50 which I was going to use to pay Arielle back for the Three Days Grace concert back in January. I hoped she'd understand though, and I called Janice and asked her if she would go with me if I bought her ticket now and she paid me back later. She assented and we picked up her ticket on the way to the concert.
We arrived at the Garrick and I got my ticket with no problems. We walked to the main concert area and it is TINY. And it was very un-full. That place is gonna be CRAMMED when Nightwish plays. But anyways, we sat down and then when Billy the Kid was gonna start we decided to stand. I actually liked Billy the Kid's music, though I felt bad for her because the crowd was really unresponsive. I'd have bought one of her five dollar CDs, except I had absolutely no cash on me. She was even out at the merch table signing CDs and taking pictures after the concert. But I digress.
Anyways, so we waited for half an hour and I could see Chantal Kreviazuk at the bottom of the stairs (I was second row right by the speakers) and I was like "OMG! IT'S CHANTAL!" and then the band came on stage, and then Chantal and then Raine! I think the first song was Careful What You Wish For and I honestly remember none of the songs after that. It was so crazy, and the sound was awesome and they were so, so close, since there's no security barrier at the Garrick. At one point, Raine asked us to cheer for the band, and he listed each member and then he came to Chantal Kreviazuk and the whole venue exploded with cheers and she said that when she was touring across Canada, she wanted to honestly be able to say that Winnipeg was the best place, and there were even more cheers. She is an amazing person; it's hard to believe she came from here. Apparently she even used to go to the Garrick to watch movies, haha.
For the encore, when they came back, Raine's like "Now that's what I'm talking about!" and then he said that it would be a shame for him to have such amazing talent on stage with him and not to let her sing, so then Chantal sang a cover of the Pixies song "Where is my Mind?" (which she introduced by dedicating it to her grandmother who's ill, and she said that her grandma would probably find the song quite funny). In the first notes, Janice like doubled over, and I thought she was mocking Chantal because she sounded nothing like the Pixies version (I've not heard much by the Pixies). It turns out that it was in amazement because it sounded, and I quote, "Just like it!".
It was just wonderful, anyways, and Janice said she really liked it a lot, and she didn't think she'd enjoy it as much as she did. She said she might even go buy Raine's CD now. I'm really happy to have seen Raine so close, and Chantal, and I would kill for them to come back. And I bet Our Lady Peace will come back after their next album!
BUT NIGHTWISH IS SOON! 38 DAYS!
